Just Because...

So I went to see the dentist for the first time last week. Mommy sat me in the chair and I was calm. They even put the paper bib on me and I was still calm. The the dentist, Dr. Yu, opened my mouth too look inside and out came the tears! He counted my teeth and checked to see how my teeth looked. The first thing he noticed was a have a very low maxillary labial fraenum, it is the piece of tissue that attaches the upper portion of gum to the upper lip. Basically this means that my upper lip is attached to my gum right in between my two front teeth, and this is causing a slight gap in my teeth. He said Mommy and Daddy have to pay extra attention when brushing my front teeth as they are harder to get at because of this. He said it is not that uncommon and his daugther is the same way. Other then a gap in the front of my teeth, there is really no harm in it. It can be corrected with surgery if one wanted to do that. Or the gap may close itself as I get older and get my adult teeth in. We will see what happens I guess!

Happy Holidays

I had a great Christmas this year. I got to see lots of family and friends. It started out with a road trip to Sparwood to have an early Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa Jarina, Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa Hume, Auntie Shelly, Uncle Terry, Cailey, Auntie Jenny and Jason, Uncle Darryl and Auntie Michelle. Before heading to Sparwood, Mommy and I picked up Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa from the bus station. The took the busy from Drumheller to Calgary and then they came with us to Sparwood. Daddy planned on meeting us in Sparwood the next day with Auntie Jenny as he had to work. So off we went.

That same day Mommy got a phone call from Daddy with some sad news. My Great-Grandpa Cliff Kirby had passed away. He was Daddy's grandpa and he lived in Pierceland, SK with his wife, my Great-Grandma Helen Kirby. He was 91 years old and had been married for 68 years. So instead of Daddy coming to Sparwood to have Christmas with us there, he headed to Saskatchewan for the funeral. I never got to meet my Great-Grandpa, but I will miss him very much.

Christmas morning for us in Sparwood was Saturday December 22. I got to wear my brand new Christmas pj's. There sure were a lot of presents for me. I got clothes, a sled, toys, even a new tricycle. It was so much fun.

While in Sparwood I got to go to a bowling party with my friends. I had never been bowling before and loved watching the kids roll the ball down the lane. I got a little too curious about the bowling balls and got my finger pinched between two. Ouch! But I wasn't sad for very long as I got to take a turn bowling. Afterwards, I got to try mini golf. I loved seeing the ball go into the cup and would clap my hands in celebration.

Hole in one!

There sure was a lot of snow in Sparwood. I think that is the most snow I have ever seen. We hardly have any snow in Calgary. I got to put on my snowsuit and check it out.

Me and "Papa"

After my Christmas in Sparwood, we headed back to Calgary where I woke up Christmas morning with Mommy, Daddy and Berkley to a race car track, a rocking horse and a tower of mega blocks. I like to press the horse's ear to make it neigh and swish its tail back and forth, but I am not too keen on riding it just yet. I do love playing with my race track though and my mega blocks. Mommy and Daddy opened presents too. It was a fun morning. In the afternoon, we headed to Auntie Jennifer and Uncle Peter's where we had Christmas dinner with them and Grandma and Grandpa Kirby, Uncle David and other family I haven't seen in a while. I loved playing with my cousins and even started saying "Ash-ee" and chasing my cousin Ashley around the house. It was a long but fun day.

Daddy got what he wanted too!

And last but not least, my picture with Santa. No, I was not too happy. I was happy with the presents he brought me though!

I hope you all had a very happy holiday season!

Meet the Kaczynski's

Well after almost a year and half, I have finally met the Kaczynski's. Well, four out of five of them anyway. Mommy's good friend Leanne came down from Medicine Hat for a couple of days as her husband Ted was in a training course here. We met up at the mall and I got to meet my new friends, Brooklyn, 6 yrs, Tori, 4 years, and little Avery, 1 year. We had so much fun. The girls loved to chase me around and mother me (especially Tori) who it seemed always had a hold of my hand and was pulling me in all directions. I have never had so much attention from so many woman before! I hope we get to go to Medicine Hat soon to visit them. I miss them already.

Today I got another haircut at Beaners. Mommy finally gave in and let them actually cut my hair last time. (she was too scared to cut much off last time as she really loved my long shaggy hair). This time I got a big boy haircut. Mommy says I look very handsome. My curls are gone and so is the white blonde hair. : ( I love my new haircut. My hair no longer tickles my face or falls into my eyes. The day before I got my haircut, Mommy just had to put pigtails in my hair! She says that all of my beautiful hair is wasted on a little boy. Daddy thinks Mommy is crazy. So there I sat while Mommy made me look like a little girl. And of course she had to take pictures of me. But, all my hair is gone so no more pigtails for me!

I am almost 17 months old now and my vocabulary is growing every day. My new favourite words are "Papa" (grandpa) and "Amma" (grandma). I have some toy little people that I like to play with. I call all of them "Papa". I also have recently learned to say "owie" after Mommy was teaching me that the hot stove will give me an owie. Others words I have been using quite a bit lately are "hot", "rnge" (orange), and "elp" (help). Grandma Jarina taught me how to say help one night while she was babysitting me. I was grunting/whining at her as I always do with someone when I want to get their attention and need help with something. So she told me if I needed help, to say help and I did.

I am also getting really good at pointing to things when asked where something is. Things I can identify are body parts such as head, eyes (I actually poked myself in the eye one day because Daddy asked where my eye was!), nose, mouth, belly, toes, fingers. I can also identify lots around the house like light, tv, puppy, santa, christmas tree, diaper, downstairs, upstairs, door, Einstein videos (when upon hearing the word Einstein, I go and get the remove controls for the dvd player), apple, banana, orange. Also outside I look into the sky when asked where the birds and airplanes and sky are. I definitely know my stuff! I am quite a smart little man : )

And because I haven't posted in a while, here are some more recent pictures of me just because.

Well, I have to go now. Mommy is working nightshift and I am at home babysitting Daddy and Berkley. I think Daddy may be getting into something he shouldn't be. Whew! They sure are a handful.

Summer is officially over as there is snow on the ground!

Hi everybody. Since it has been a while since I gave you all an update, I thought it was time.

This past week I have been sick. Mommy took me to the doctor and it turns out I have an ear infection as well as infected tonsils. I am on antibiotics and Mommy had to leave work on Monday to pick me up from daycare and is staying home with me again today. I no longer have any symptoms but I don't want to get any of the kids at daycare sick. I am feeling a lot better then I was over the weekend though. Mommy had to cancel my Halloween party she was hosting for my little friends and we also missed out on meeting some friends from Regina who have a new baby girl. So the weekend was spent pretty much indoors and recovering.

I have some exciting news in the vocabulary department. I can now say Auntie! There is a picture of my Auntie Jenny on the fridge and I will look at it and point and say "Auntie." I do have a few Auntie Jenn/Jenny/Jennifer's though so this may become confusing! Other new words I am saying are "nana" for banana, "ish" for fish and "ug" for my puppy Berkley's tug toy. I also say "ack, ack" when asked what does a duck say. I have this book I like to look at that has bright pictures of animals and objects around the house. If Mommy and Daddy ask where certain objects are, eg. apple, fish, banana, bottle, I will usually point to the correct object. The word I use the most though is still Daddy.

I went for my one year check up finally (a few months late) and everything looks good. The doctor says I am a healthy boy and now weigh around 26 lbs and am about 31" tall.

Mommy is happy to annouce I finally give kisses and hugs! I don't do it all the time, but sometimes Mommy just won't stop until I give her a kiss. She will say "kisses" and I will put my mouth to hers or move my cheek towards her mouth. Mommy says it is so cute!

I am getting into more and more trouble every day as well. I sure keep Mommy and Daddy on their toes! I love to play in the pots and pans cubboard and also love to find snacks in the snack cupboard. And I have been known to reach the top of the stairs when Mommy and Daddy weren't looking! I still am into the dog food and love to try to sneak a piece of it. Mommy usually catches me though and makes me spit it out. I am quite clumsy Mommy and Daddy have noticed and am always "bonking" my head on things. I love to play behind the blinds in the living room and am always getting caught in them. I have also gotten my fingers stuck in the pocket sliding door to the bathroom. But do I learn? Nope. I always go back for more! One of my favorite things to do right now is to run laps around the house. I tend to do it more at night right before bed. Mommy and Daddy are usually exhausted once I am in bed.

I also love to go to the park with my puppy Berkley. I usually walk the whole way now as I don't want to be in my stroller. I point to airplanes or birds in the sky. I always have puppies coming up to me and giving me big wet kisses, sometimes even leaving my face full of dirt. Today when Mommy took me to the park, snow was covering the ground and I am not a big fan of this white stuff. Mommy put my down in it and I started to cry. Then she made a snowball and tried to give it to me. I just shook my head no. I think it will take some getting used to. I do love the park when it is sunny and warm out though. Here are some pics of me a week or so ago:

And finally, here is a litte sneak peak at what I am going to be dressed up as for Halloween. It is the perfect costume (and nickname) for me:

And finally I want to wish a very happy birthday to my fur-brother Berkley who turns 3 today:

Baby Berkley

All grown up

And a Happy Birthday to my friend Brooklyn who turns 6 today. I am sad to say I have never even met her yet. But Mommy says we will go visit them really soon. Happy Birthday Brooklyn!

Have a Happy Halloween everyone!

Lots of wet kisses,

Eli

An apple a day...

Grandma was given some small apples from an apple tree and she gave some to me as they are the perfect size for my little hands. I LOVE apples! Mommy sometimes cuts them up for me but I prefer to eat the apple in one piece. I love them so much when I was at Auntie Jenny's I ate the whole apple, core and all!

Look what I got!

Mmmm...

Mommy asked for a bite of my apple and I tried to offer her toast instead!

Oh, you want some apple?

Here you go!

Nothing goes better with an apple then milk.

I have been going to daycare now for over 2 months and I really do like it there. I still cry when Daddy drops me off in the morning. And when Mommy drops me off in the afternoon, often I will cling to her leg and not let her go. I am making progress though as the last morning Daddy dropped me off, I didn't cry, I just gave him the lip. I was brave though. I knew he would be back for me...and he was! There are lots of kids for me to pay with there. So I am a busy boy all day long!

My latest thing to do, which keeps Mommy and Daddy busy, is I like to throw my toy balls through the baby gate and down the stairs. I throw one at a time, watch it roll all the way to the bottom, and then I go and get another ball and do it again. It is so much fun to watch the balls bounce down the stairs!

Well, it is time for my nap. I am pooped!
Talk to you all again soon.

Love Eli
